technical and wear-resistant materials
to manufacture mechanical components capable of withstanding exceptionally demanding operating conditions, such as corrosive environments or applications involving contact with food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, etc. Our expertise encompasses a wide range of metallic carbides, including tungsten carbide (Widia) and titanium carbide in their various forms. Additionally, we work with special steels, heat-treated steels, powder metallurgy steels, high-speed steels, and more.
Widia
is a material composed primarily of tungsten carbide particles and a metallic binder, which in most cases is cobalt.
At QP Mechanics, we often use Widia to manufacture dies, punches, cutting knives, or other components that, due to their application, could be easily exposed to significant wear phenomena.
Widia components are manufactured in integral form – when not requiring a containment sleeve – or assembled in steel bodies when the expected stresses are significant and could lead to breakage.
Over time, we have also gained extensive experience in processing steel. We employ either sintered or tool steels based on the specific applications of the components.
- Using sintered steels, which boast superior mechanical properties compared to conventional steels, allows us to obtain solid, tenacious, and compact mechanical components, such as dies, punches, and bushings.
- On the other hand, using tool steels allows us to build slightly less demanding components while maintaining good mechanical characteristics and lower costs, compared to those produced from powder.
is always subject to balancing:
- Hardness and toughness
- Working conditions
- Wear resistance
- the cost-benefit ratio
